As a way of dealing with our high violent crime rates, I propose law-abiding residents should be issued Shall Issue Style Concealed Carry Permits, similar to those currently issued in over 40 US States.

These permits would be issued to all applicants, subject to conditions similar to the following :

No significant criminal history of violent or anti-social behaviour.

No history of serious mental illness, such as paranoid schizophrenia.

Completion of training course concerning the responsibility involved in gun ownership and the severe criminal penalties for deliberate and intentional misuse of firearms.  The course would also cover the safe and responsible handling of firearms. 

These permits would allow anyone above a certain age with a law-abiding and mentally stable background to carry a concealed handgun in public, and to use them in self-defence if necessary.

This has proven very effective in reducing violent crime levels around the world.

2.  Allow People to Keep and Use Shotguns in their Homes for Self-Defence.

The second part of my campaign is to change the law to allow the same law-abiding people to keep and use pump-action shotguns and high velocity rifles in their homes in order to defend themselves and their families from intruders.
