UK Gun Crime Figures

Listed here are the official UK government statistics on crimes involving handguns and shotguns.

They cover the years 1997 (the year of the handgun ban), up till the most recent year available - 2007.

The Government figures only include cases where guns are fired, used to "pistol whip" victims, or brandished as a threat, therefore the real number of crimes is probably far higher.

In addition, many victims are reluctant or afraid to report crimes to the police for fear of reprisals, and many criminals won't report crimes to the police, prefering to deal with it themselves.

The figures show a clear rise in gun-related crime, with the 2006-2007 figures still much higher than the 1997 figures.
